FAA NexGen
The FAA recently initiated an agency wide program
to upgrade their entire email system. The Next
Generation Messaging System (NexGen) contract
was awarded to IBM Corporation by the FAA in 2001.
To help oversee this effort, FAA contracted CentreTEK
to support the FAA NEXGEN Program Manager in executing
a very aggressive schedule.
NexGen is an enterprise wide email solution designed to replace FAA's current cc:mail system to 43,000
end users. The NexGen program will result in a streamlined system that improves efficiency and reliability
through a drastic reduction and consolidation of more than 855 electronic post offices in 379 locations
down to e-mail servers in just 12 locations.
CentreTEK Solutions provides direct support to the NexGen Program Manager, in the tracking of all tasks
for program deployment. CentreTEK Solutions provide accurate, weekly updates on over 3,000 tasks divided
between 15 task leads. In addition to Program Management support, CentreTEK Solutions also provides
deployment management, hardware/software coordination and training coordination for the thousands of FAA
users and site system administrators. The first phase of the program, scheduled to be completed by December
2002, will replace users' cc:mail systems with Lotus Notes, starting with the FAA's nine regional offices,
the agency's Washington, D.C., headquarters, its Oklahoma City aeronautical center and the Atlantic City,
N.J., technical center.
NexGen is a multi-year project. Upcoming phases include the addition of user-requested features and
the deployment of emerging technologies.
