Solution Highlights Industry: Government- Navy Scenario: Web based search application for placing government and civilian employees in specific projects Technology: Microsoft .NET MS SQL Server NAVSEA Command - Public, Private, Partnership Resource Locator (P3RL) Situation. One of the Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) primary missions is to perform cutting edge research on surface warfare systems. When a new NAVSEA research project is initiated, a team of public and private scientists and engineers must be identified and assembled with the right mix of experience and expertise. Performing searches for these highly specialized researchers can be a daunting task, often relying on personal knowledge of professionals or word of mouth in both the government and private research communities. To help NAVSEA improve their ability to find the right resources for their research projects and facilitate the assembly of these public/private research teams, CentreTEK Solutions was selected to create a web-based human resource application to track and search the skills of science, engineering, and technology professionals within the extended NAVSEA research community. Solution. CentreTEK redesigned and implemented the P3RL, an enterprise e-business solution designed to pull together skill records on government and private research professionals from disparate sources and present them as a secure, searchable database. CentreTEK used Microsoft’s ASP.NET technology to allow professionals to input/update their experience, expertise, education, and other related information from the web. Project managers can perform an on-line search of the database to find professionals who meet their specific criteria. Results. Because of the web-based interface and search capability, P3RL results in a streamlined process for assembling research teams, improving staffing efficiency and ensuring that the best professionals are identified and acquired for any given project. P3RL takes into account privacy issues by not storing and/or encrypting individual, personal information (e.g. Social Security Numbers). After developing the application, CentreTEK Solutions was asked to continue to support its expansion and maintenance as NAVSEA deploys it.
